To commemorate the event, Druids built big bonfires, where the people joined to burn crops and animals as sacrifices to the Celtic gods. During the celebration, the Celts wore costumes, generally animal heads and skins, and tried to guess the others’  fortunes. When the celebration finished, they re-lit their hearth fires, which they had extinguished earlier that evening, from the sacred bonfire to  protect them during the coming winter.
